GLORIA CALOVINI RECOGNIZES A GOOD INVESTMENT WHEN SHE SEES ONE

Gloria Calovini knows a good thing when she sees it. Always astute with her finances, she immediately recognized an excellent opportunity that would also support UIS students. It was the late 1990s when she heard about the University of Illinois Foundation’s charitable gift annuities (CGA).

“During your lifetime, you profit from a very good return on your money. Then after you pass away, I can’t think of a better way for your money to be spent than to educate the next generation,” states Gloria.

Gloria thought so highly of the CGA that she convinced two friends to follow her example! “More people should investigate UIF annuities because it’s a great way to help students and help yourself,” she concludes.

Gloria received her bachelor’s degree from Washington University in St. Louis in 1947. After that, while teaching one gray and rainy day in Illinois, she looked up California in the encyclopedia and liked what she saw. The next year, she was in San Francisco working on a master’s degree at San Francisco State.

That degree eventually led to a career teaching and working for the Illinois Board of Education in Springfield. She retired after a 37-year career. As an active member of the Springfield community, today she enjoys her involvement with UIS and other local organizations.
